Homework Expectations

Homework includes the completion of daily assignments, daily revision, and long-range preparation for major assignments, tests, and examinations. Students may expect subject teachers to check regularly to see that this work has been completed.

Use the Student Planner to help you organize:

  • IN CLASS, record what work is assigned and its due date.
  • BEFORE LEAVING THE SCHOOL, refer to your Planner so that you can take home what you need.
  • BEFORE LEAVING HOME, refer to it again to make sure that you have everything you need for the day.

Suggested amounts of time to be spent on homework are:

  • Grade 9 and 10: 1.5 hours daily
  • Grades 11 and 12: 2 hours daily

Do your homework alone. Do not accept phone calls while studying. Do not watch television or do anything else that distracts you. Make yourself a homework schedule, and build some relaxation breaks. For example, do some work before supper and some after supper. For each of your subjects, spend 5 to 10 minutes reviewing your class notes. Then do your written assignments. Finally, get some relaxation before you go to bed.
