Attendance

Regular attendance is the responsibility of all students at E.Y.C.I.  The Ontario Ministry of Education indicates that at least 110 hours of schedule instruction are required to gain one credit in a course. Therefore students must maintain regular attendance in all courses on their timetable.

Absences:

All students must provide documentation for any absence not approved by the school. All students must report to their homeform teacher upon returning from an absence in order to receive a notification slip for their other teachers/classes. If the student does not provide a note to the homeform teacher then the absence will be recorded as a skip. Please note: The office will not provide an admit slip for a skipped class. There will be further consequences for unexplained absences.

Lates:

Students are expected to arrive on time and be prepared for class. Students must be in their Period One class before 9:00 a.m. and before the time identified on the daily schedules for all other classes. There will be further consequences for persistent lateness.

Consequences For Students:

Failure to attend classes regularly and on time will result in teachers using a range of consequences to address the problem:

  • Interview/counseling by the teacher
  • Before/after school detentions to make up class time
  • Phone call and consultation with parents/guardians
  • Vice Principal referral
  • Involvement of attendance/guidance counselors
  • Suspension for truancy
  • Individualized Behaviour/attendance contract
  • Removal from E.Y.C.I.
